21 Oct 2025

The fourth local camel racing championship for the 2025–2026 season kicked off today, organized by the Camel Racing Committee, with strong participation from enthusiasts of this traditional Qatari sport.

Held at Al Sheehaniya and Lbusayyir tracks, the event runs for 11 days until November 12, featuring seven days for tribal-owned camels and four days for camels owned by Their Highnesses and Excellencies.

The opening day featured 24 races for the Hagayeg (young camels) over a 3 km course.
“Ghand” from Al Sheehaniya Camels won the main female race in 4:32 minutes, while “Sharhan,” owned by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Hamad bin Khalid bin Ahmed Al Thani, claimed the main male race in 4:37 minutes.

The races continue tomorrow with general Hagayeg rounds, celebrating Qatar’s deep-rooted passion for camel racing as a symbol of its national heritage.
